Team Member Spotlight: Eric Walter, Director of Impact – Post-Secondary Experiences

Junior Achievement is proud to shine a spotlight on Eric Walter, our Director of Impact for Post-Secondary Experiences and Mississippi. With over five years at JA, Eric has been an invaluable member of the team, bringing his passion for education and the importance of financial literacy to every project.

Eric grew up in New Orleans, spending his early years in the 7th Ward before moving to Gentilly at the age of 15. His educational journey began at Corpus Christi Elementary School and continued at St. Augustine High School (St. Aug), where he cultivated his love for learning and leadership. A proud alumnus of Dillard University, Eric’s New Orleans roots run deep, shaping his commitment to community and youth development.

Before joining Junior Achievement, Eric spent eight years as an elementary and middle school teacher, where he honed his skills in connecting with young learners. He later took on the role of dean at a high school for three years, furthering his impact on student growth and success. These experiences gave him a firsthand understanding of the importance of financial literacy education, a passion he carries into his current role at JA.

Eric’s favorite part of his job is working with young people and equipping them with essential financial knowledge. “Teaching students about the importance of financial literacy is something I really wish I had learned when I was younger,” he shares. He also values JA’s commitment to helping young people avoid the pitfalls of debt and empowering them with budgeting skills that set them up for success.

When Eric isn’t championing financial literacy at JA, he enjoys staying active at the gym and building intricate Lego models—a creative outlet that balances his love for fitness. Currently, he’s binge-watching Blue Eyed Samurai on Netflix and diving into the gripping pages of World War Z.

If Eric could visit any place in the world, it would be Johannesburg, South Africa, or Paris, France—two destinations that remain at the top of his bucket list. Eric’s go-to restaurant is Bobby Hebert’s Cajun Cannon, where he enjoys the flavors of the region. He draws his greatest inspiration from his father, a role model of hard work, patience, and resilience. “I always ask myself, ‘What would my dad do?’ when faced with tough situations,” he explains.

Through his work at Junior Achievement, Eric continues to make a difference in the lives of students, empowering them with the tools to build a brighter future. His dedication, experience, and enthusiasm embody the mission of Junior Achievement and inspire those around him every day.

Thank you, Eric, for all that you do to shape the next generation of leaders!
